You Can Grow in the Marine Corps
CAPT KEYSTELLA MITCHEL 1:24
I’m a person of challenge and the Marine Corps has definitely been that for me. Being African-American, it has shown me, when I first joined, there were very few African-Americans, especially officers that I was aware of at the time. Then through the Marine Corps, in my fifteen plus years, I have seen a number of different African-Americans that are of senior rank. It’s very impressive to me. It does show you that you can grow in the Marine Corps and it gives you that opportunity. That is one of the pluses that I would say is that it gives you the opportunity to grow and venture out. It shows you that there is more to life than just the streets. You can go out and you can become something that’s positive in this world and come back and show the community that I am capable. I came from the same streets as you came from and look at me now. So it is possible that you can go out and you can do great things.
The junior Marines are what makes it fun. You learn so much from them and me, myself, being a junior Marine, I can attest to that. They bring a lot of different things to the game, different personalities, different strengths, different weaknesses and you grow as much as they do being a part of them and leading them.
