Always Shooting High
JEFF WOODS 0:58
Jake has always been one to take on the big challenges; the ones that other people don’t want. And actually, after 9/11, I thought he was going to drop out of school and join. Then when he got his degree he said, “I want to be a grunt. I want to be an infantryman in the Marines.” He didn’t want to be an officer. He wanted to be an infantryman. He’s doing what he wants to do and Jake’s always done what he wants to do. From playing football in the big ten to graduating with a double major in four years, Jake does what he wants to do and he does it well. He’s not intimidated by anything. He’s talking about going to grad school when he gets out and I said, “Where are you going to go?” and he said, “Well, I’m going to Harvard, Michigan, NYU, Georgetown, you know, somewhere like that.” So the man’s always shot high and he’s never missed. As a Marine? I think leading men is something he wanted to do. He wanted to get in a position where he could lead a squad of men. They’re the finest fighting force in the world. They’re the ones that I will count on to defend out freedoms.
